Julia Scheckel

Julia Scheckel, a printmaker and illustrator from Milwaukee, WI, fell in love with printmaking during college for its fusion of illustration and darkroom work. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2020. Currently, she manages Anchor Press, Paper & Print, a non-profit community printmaking studio. Her recent solo exhibition at Gallery 224 in Port Washington showcased her work from a year-long residency with the ARTservency program. In 2022, her first solo exhibition at the Pump House Regional Arts Center in La Crosse featured woodcuts and screenprints exploring the theme of connecting friendships to nature walks.

Note from Julia: "I help run Anchor Press, Paper & Print which is a nonprofit, community centered printmaking studio in Milwaukee. Anchor Press, Paper & Print, or AP3 for short, is located inside of the House of RAD artist complex. If you like seeing art around Milwaukee then spaces like these are essential.  AP3 is the only place in Milwaukee that’s available for the public to come in and make traditional fine art prints in a professionally equipped studio. We have people from as far as Illinois commute to AP3 to participate in our workshops, take part in our community, and use our equipment. If you would like to see what we’re about, visit us during a Tuesday night Open Studio! anchorpresspaperandprint.org"
