About Sumatra- Kerinci

Sumatra Kerinci Grade 1 GrainPro is sourced from family-owned farms organized around an export company called PT. AgroTropic Nusantara (AGTN), which has been working with coffee producers since 2013 in the Kayu Aro highlands of the Kerinci regency within the Jambi province on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia.

Majority of Indonesian coffees are grown on small-holder farms, where the coffee cherries are picked and pulped, this means that the fruit is run through a hand-crank drum with a cheese grated type of surface that assists in peeling off the skin of the fruit. The seeds are then fermented in micro-mills to get the fruit layer (mucilage) to breakdown overnight. After overnight fermentation, the mucilage can be washed off and what remains are wet parchment coffee which is the green bean inside the parchment layer.

The coffee is then washed and laid out on patios to shed excess water from the parchment covered beans. Here, the coffee takes a detour from conventional processing, wherein, the coffee bean is exposed while drying on patios to an acceptable export moisture percentage. This Indonesian processing method gives the un-roasted bean its unique bluish hue and the hallmark Sumatran profile. Sumatra- Kerinci is most popular for its unique flavor profile, low acidity, full body, and natural rustic flavors that are best described as earthy.

Coffee Great - Delivery Not-so-good

I fell in love with the Sumatra coffee after stopping at Fiddleheads while driving back to Chicago. I reordered 3 bags of Sumatra and it took over 1 week to arrive. Really!?!?

Love this coffee!

Sumatra is great, probably my favorite dark roast from Fiddleheads. Definitely will buy more! :)
